Super Foods

I totally recommend that anyone buy and read "The Maker's Diet" by: Jordan Rubin.  In it he talks about the importance of your gut and how it is connected to your brain.  Your gut has approximately the same number of neurotransmitters as your brain does.  So, it is just as important to care for your gut or we will not be able to think at all.  I have learned that certain foods have great healthful properties.  I think you should always buy organic, all natural things but these are a few that I was really amazed by:
Eggs: They are a great source of choline which is a nutrient that can help regulate the brain, nervous system and cardiovascular system; it is great for your eyes; contains all known nutrients except vitamin C and can help reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer.  For more benefits click here.
Cod Liver Oil:  It is known to play a dramatic role in the development of the brain, the eye retina, male reproductive tissue, lubrication of the joints and the body's inflammation response.  It is also a great source of naturally occurring vitamin A and D as well as DHA and EPA, which are essential fatty acids. Herbs to Cook With:
Cinnamon:  Kills bacteria causing tooth decay, and prevent Urinary Tract Infections
Coriander:  AKA-cilantro,  can aid in the elimination of heavy metals, can control body odor, and can help with gas.
Marjoram:  can be used as a remedy for colds and inflammation and digestion.
Garlic:  Helps fight infections, discourages mosquitoes, helps in the treatment of diabetes and high blood pressure.
Turmeric:  Great anti-inflammatory, digestive aid, and liver protector.

Bad foods and sugars include anything with the word "hydrogenated," artificial anything which all adds stress to your body and your gut.  Whenever you have an illness it will typically cause gastrointestinal distress as well, so some other things you can do to help heal your gut is:
adding a probiotic and colostrum.
Probiotic: Provides good gut flora.  I prefer lactobacillus Sporogenes for more info on this particular probiotic click here.
Colostrum: Aids in boosting your immune system and has good gut healing properties.  When a baby is born the very first thing produced by the mother before breast milk, is colostrum which helps to boost the babies immune system.  It is now believed that it has even more benefits, i.e. effective in cancer treatment.  For more info on the benefits of colostrum click here.

I will get more in depth about each specific vitamin and mineral in my next post. :)

Why I Am Blogging

I am a 29 year old Wife and Mother.  I have always been tall and thin and have never needed to worry about my weight and never had any serious health issues.  So, I always ate what I wanted when I wanted and never really gave it a second thought.  My husband and his family have had some health issues, that we have battled over the years, but we have pretty much tossed it up to the idea that we are southern and love our unhealthy, butter smothered, good food.  I have two beautiful boys which are almost three and one year old.  One day when I was watching an episode of Oprah about Autism it stopped me dead in my tracks.  Some of the things the guests were talking about that were signs of autism, my oldest son was doing.  This sent me immediately into panic mode!!!  I started to research all I could.  I set up an appt. with our pediatrician who told me that my son was not autistic but could probably benefit from some speech therapy.  So, we set up an evaluation with a speech therapist who I also expressed my concerns to and she, too, said that she didn't think he was autistic.  I then took him to a wonderful nurse practitioner who did some testing on him and found some higher than normal levels of heavy metals in his system.  So, at that point we started detoxing his body and researching and learning a lot about what we put in our bodies, good and bad, and now I would like to share all of what I learned about through my journey of discovery.  We also had a pediatric psychologist preform an evaluation on our son and his professional opinion also was that he was not autistic but was probably a bit obsessive compulsive and anxious.  Now if anyone knows me personally then that is an exactl replica of myself :)  Having said all that, I am relieved that my son is not "autistic" but I do believe that a lot of what we put in our bodies can have dramatic effects on how our minds and bodies grow and develop and function.  I believe that a lot of our learning disabilities and physical ailments can be changed by what we put in our bodies.  Our bodies were made by God to function in a specific way and so long as you take care of it by putting the proper things in it, then it will take care of itself.  Like I said earlier, I am only a wife and mother, not a doctor, these are my opinions and I don't ask any one to substitute their own opinion for mine.  I do believe that no one knows everything and that includes doctors, so don't take just anyone's word for the profound truth.  Research things yourself and learn about what you are putting into your body before you do it.
